Geometry Terms

It seems like kids are learning more and more at earlier and earlier ages. This seems to be true due to higher standards and more advanced curricula. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t enjoy it or that they aren’t ready for it. So, when you hear that your child is learning geometry in kindergarten math, don’t fret. This simply means that they are beginning on a mathematical journey by learning the basics. If you feel that your child needs more math practice or if you would like to help get him or her ready for kindergarten, try some online games or learning tools like math printable worksheets for some fun activities to do at home. Here are some common kindergarten geometry terms you might hear your child use:

shapes, geometric figures, 2 dimensional, 3 dimensional or 3-D, circle, square, rectangle, triangle, oval, cube, sphere, corners

There are so many ways you can practice geometry at home with your kindergartner. Be sure to point out all the shapes and geometric figures around the house, outside, or even at the grocery store, and ask your child to do the same. Think about all the spheres you’ll find- balls, oranges, globes- and all the squares and rectangles- tables, rugs, television screens. Learning and practicing kindergarten geometry terms and concepts by learning online is also a great way to get started and reinforce the skills your child learns at school.
